Best way to implement Breadcrumb?

Hello,

Google has published an article regarding the importance of Breadcrumbs ( Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Better presentation of URLs in search results )

Is there a special technique for implementing Breadcrumbs? How should we link the pages or where should we link them to? I couldn’t find a proper source.

15-20 thousand of my pages are affected by an update, so I want to do it in the best way possible.

Even though I have breadcrumbs, Google doesn’t see them. Actually, all sites switched to breadcrumbs on mobile; Google did this itself. So it doesn’t affect the user. Google said “I will do this myself” and did it, just for mobile.
