Hello friends, I recently read in an article (which I can’t find right now) that tags can be indirectly harmful.
For example, we entered 3 tags, and 3 links were created for these tags in the form of /tag1, /tag2, /tag3. Since the content of these links always features the same page, it honestly made sense to me that this could be harmful. However, when considered from another angle, it also seems beneficial for internal linking.
When I look at the sites on the first page of Google for the keyword SEO, it appears that many sites have gradually stopped adding tags. A few sites have added a small amount, but the tag links are not shared within the topic; they are only visible in sitemap.xml.
I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors.
I am also in favor of tags not being indexed; only 3 tags related to the topic can serve as a bridge to reach similar posts. In other words, let’s say you wrote “Places to visit in Ankara”; if you define two tags for this post, “Ankara” and “Places to Visit”, your users will be able to access other information related to “Ankara” by clicking on the “Ankara” tag. However, if we add a lot of junk like “Game rooms in Ankara, Cafes in Ankara”, it will be harmful since they belong to a single post.
Many news sites provide links via tags. I don’t think it is harmful for SEO; let’s say that in every news entry regarding a political leader, that leader’s name is entered as a tag. When you search for that name on Google, that tag page appears in the top rankings.
There are also those who say it has lost its effectiveness. I think it’s worth doing as long as it doesn’t do any harm.
