Hello friends, I have a project in mind, but the naming issue is confusing me a bit. I am wondering whether the name should be something completely unrelated or if I should stick to the content. I am waiting for your suggestions.
If your future plans are very big, I recommend starting with an unrelated name—meaning a name that is important for branding. However, if you are just saying, “Let 3-4k users come so I can earn ad revenue, that’s enough for me,” then make it related to the content, but keep in mind that branding will be difficult in the future.
Let me put it this way: it will be more like a blog focused on advertising systems, acting as a bridge between the advertiser and the publisher, similar to affiliate systems and sites. I don’t know if it will catch on or not.
Then it would be better to choose a brandable name.
We briefly discussed the topic of brand vs. related name here. Personally, I would decide based on the project and the resources at hand. Namely;
I believe memorability is the most important factor. Because of this, if I find a reasonably priced generic domain, it would definitely be my first choice.
When you find an address like xyzworld.com, don’t assume it is highly memorable. Because there are dozens of other names of the same quality, such as xyzhome, xyzhouse, xyzbasket, xyz.co, etc. On top of that, when you add generic names like xyz.com, .net, .org, .gen.tr, you will struggle quite a bit in the competition.
Some sectors require professionalism. Since companies with brand domains have become quite popular in recent years, they project a more professional image. When choosing a brand, you do not have the limitation of it having to be meaningful; your chances of finding a memorable domain with a .com extension are very high. However, etching a brand domain into people’s minds requires a lot of advertising and online visibility, which demands money and effort.
On the other hand, finding a name that explains the purpose of the project can also be very advantageous. If you are venturing into a business that has not been done before, or is not widely known, these types of names are more suitable. For example; you are going to run a car rental business, but you will deliver the car to the customer’s address. Names that describe what you do, like mycaratmydoor, sendrentalcar, etc., could make much more sense.
