My Local Site Opening Plan

I am planning to launch a website about the city where I attend university. I will enter all kinds of information about the city in an original way. Historical sites, places to visit, biographies of famous people in the city, local food recipes, and so on. To keep the site current, I will also share news from time to time. If I share news about the university as well, I will also attract students. When the city’s name is typed and it appears in the top 10, maybe I can get advertisements from the local shopkeepers here; other than that, I will add AdSense ads. If the site catches on, I could open a subdomain and even get into the real estate business.
I have such a project in mind, friends. Do you think it will catch on? I haven’t ventured into such a business before. Earning 300 lira a month is enough.

To get into the top 10 for the name that way, you will need to meet with the governor’s office and the municipality. You will explain to them that you have a project that will promote this city very well, and you will tell them you are not doing it for money. You will get backlinks from the governor’s office and the municipality, and they will help you unlimitedly. Otherwise, it is extremely difficult to rank for that city’s keyword. I am doing such a project for Kastamonu. I met with the governor’s office; I will both get a backlink and they gave me so many resources that have never been published on the internet before, my brain stopped

I think the revenue it will generate will be proportional to the time dedicated to the site. It will definitely vary from city to city as well. A few ideas came to mind that I think will make the site popular, let me share them:

  • Enabling students to message each other with a good chat plugin could be nice. If they manage their organizations, share notes, post rental listings, etc. through the site, a solid community will form.

  • Regularly tracking and instantly sharing all national news related to the city can take the site’s traffic beyond the city itself.

  • Support can be obtained by preparing a social responsibility project and presenting it to public institutions like the municipality and governor’s office, as well as to the city’s leading businessmen. It doesn’t have to be a costly project; donating books to a school or cleaning the streets is still something.

  • If the university has a faculty of communication, you could recruit volunteers from there to prepare street interviews, videos, etc. It would serve as a kind of internship for the students, and the resulting content could make the site quite popular.

  • In summary, I believe any effort that encourages voluntary sharing, especially by students, can bring good traffic and revenue.

I didn’t know the municipality provided support, this would be good. But my goal here is to make money. If I say I’m not doing it for money and then accept advertisements later, what would they say?

Your ideas are very nice, I liked them a lot. Having a real estate section for students will bring in good traffic, and even small commissions could be earned from there. The chat idea is good too.

If you say there are ads, neither the governor’s office nor the municipality will accept it. You should do it little by little later on, and then make the excuse that the system started getting too expensive and you need to run ads to cover the system costs. They won’t say anything, but if you say it at the very beginning, it will end before it even starts, and you will never rank on the first page for that city’s name.

Understood, I am planning to do this for a city with a population of 150,000. Do you think I can generate income?

You can’t earn from Google, but you can earn from local businesses, and you can generate very large incomes. What is your knowledge of PHP?

I have no PHP knowledge at all, I am thinking of doing it with WordPress or Joomla. I think they will do the job.

Honestly, I will put a lot of effort into it; I have started custom coding for the site in my signature. I realized that Google values custom-coded systems more.

You’re right, Google likes uniqueness, but there is nothing else I can do, I will have to use ready-made systems. I think I can rank higher with organic SEO work.
